I’m a documentary photographer and videographer based in Bucharest, Romania, represented by Panos Pictures. I’m the founder of cdfd.ro, where I focus on producing long-term documentary projects.

With a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Media, I worked as a photographer for major newspapers in Bucharest before leaving to concentrate on personal projects. My first major project, Pride and Concrete, started in 2010 and examines displays of newly gained wealth among migrant workers returning to their rural communities. Spanning over a decade (2010–2022), I photographed and filmed in Romania and Paris. With support from the World Press and Robert Bosch Foundations, I produced a photo story, a short film, two books (2012, 2024), a website, and a traveling exhibition featured in Bucharest, Negrești (in the heart of the documented community), Berlin, and London.

My second long-term project, Black Sea, began in 2010 and is still ongoing. It has taken me to countries around the sea and was partially financed by a grant from the German Marshall Fund. Having grown up in Constanța on the shores of the Black Sea, I’m fascinated by the strange mix of holiday-making and localized tensions and conflicts that have marked the region over the past couple of decades. Black Sea is an ongoing project, and I continue to travel whenever possible to this invisible frontier, which today marks the new Iron Curtain.

My work has been published in magazines and newspapers worldwide, from the Sunday Times Magazine and Businessweek to The New York Times, 6 Mois, and Esquire. I have also worked for corporate and NGO clients such as Orange, Ericsson, Renault, Discovery Channel, Open Society Foundation, Robert Bosch Stiftung, and others.

I have won several awards, including Best Press Photographer/Image of the Year in Romania’s professional competitions multiple times (most recently in 2024) and was a finalist for the European Press Prize (Migration, 2024). Past recognition includes a documentary award at the Humanity Photo Awards in China, supported by UNESCO, an Honorable Mention at the China International Press Photo award (CHIPP), and an Award of Excellence at POY International.
