Disappointed with the present and in search of meaning and security, contemporary society turns to the past, where authentic or imagined elements serve as reference points for envisioning a better world. Retrotopia is a concept introduced by sociologist Zygmunt Bauman to describe a reversal of utopia. During 2018 – 2025 I have collected many of these visual representations and reinterpretations of the Dacian myth/ Romanian National founding myth, and set out to bring them together — without judgment — as a kind of illustrated encyclopaedia of the Dacians, in colour.
